My husband and I thought we had a pretty good family going. Until about a year and a half ago our oldest daughter took our car and totaled it twice in one day while we both were out of state conducting business, which caused us to take an emergency flight back home. Well it just became worse as time went on. This was her first major upset to the family. She followed up by starting off her next year of high school with cutting class, skipping class, cutting school and numerous suspensions, both in and out of school. While this was going on I started searching her room only to find cigarettes. She was sneaking out of the house, and having sex with the boy next door. After that, drugs came into the picture, alcohol was missing, money was taken, and she started running away. Meanwhile, we were finding solutions on how to fix the issues at hand. The last straw was the night we had to get the sheriff's department involved to go and find her because she had run away. Her options were limited to stay at home or to go and stay with her grandparents while we tried to come up with a solution. She chose to stay at her grandparent’s home. My husband had to leave the next morning to go on a business trip to New York, while I started going online to find some answers to the problem because we needed immediate help. The local state departments and social system were of no help with the limited amount of resources. Besides, these places only teach your child how to become better at what they are already good at. I came across the web page of lifelines, who were able to assist us with the school at Red River Academy. The Program is structured so that the whole family will benefit, and not just the child. When they come home, "THE WHOLE FAMILY WILL BE TOGETHER", again. The Program teaches each person to look inside oneself for the solutions that all of us need; accountability, integrity, awareness, and respect. This has been the best decision that we have made to not only help our child, but to help us personally become the loving parents that our children deserve.
